Initial Model of the Candle

Initially, I used a normal ramp texture on a blinn hoping that it will create the illusion of subsurface, however it just looks flate. So I decided to look up tutorials on sub-surface scatter for mental ray and try to apply it to the candle. Below you will see the process.

Second Version Set-Up  

This is my second try on the flame Animation. I used the dynamic spline method . Creating a spline IK, I converted the spline into a dynamic curve which reacts to dynamic field.

Prof. Melcolm provided a RenderMan Translucent Shader for the wax, which I applied onto it.

On the left you can see the network of the wax shader. I have also added a displacement to the shader to give it some roughness.

What I don't really like is the bottom part of the shader that i cannot get the correct color, as it is affected by light.

If I have time i will go in and play around with it again.
